Botanist’s Garden

Designing a small summerhouse for a retired botany enthusiast with a vast semi-wild garden. The Botanist wishes to teach her grandchildren about enormous variety of plants growing in the garden. Becoming X has surveyed the garden, its trees, plants and flowers, collecting and cataloguing plant samples over several months in spring and summer to understand the flowering schedule and seasonal change of the garden. The second part of the project is to erect a lightweight summer room at the bottom of the garden. The new summer room has a simple timber frame, built over the footprint of the original summerhouse that was destroyed by a storm in the 1970s. The room will store gardening equipment, books and samples collected from the garden in the previous year and act as a place to rest before the long walk back to the house.
