Becoming X has been developing a structural system to extend a 1970s detached brick building for a young family of 3. The intervention is minimal – a cut and insert strategy. The extension is designed around an over engineered steel structure that leaves room for further adaptation in the future. Two cuts into the existing external wall are made to extend into the garden and opening up more living space on the ground floor, unlocking the buildings potential and providing possibility for further extensions, ensuring the buildings life long into the future.
